The FoolA young person in motley-colored clothes, carrying all he needs for his journey with him, walks toward the edge of a cliff. There are two possible interpretations: Either he is so naively focused on a lofty goal in the distance, that he does not see the danger at his feet; or he is fully aware and is about to take a leap into the unknown (a leap of Faith) trusting that all will turn out well. In a way, you can think of the Major Arcana of the Tarot as a story, in which the Fool is the main character. The other cards of the Major Arcana represent the different stages of his journey and development. Is it foolish to leap off the cliff? Perhaps. But how else can one grow except by making mistakes? In this way the Fool is one of the wisest archeptypes of the Tarot. To draw the Fool means you should let go of all you think you want or need to be happy, and focus on happiness itself. Surrender your control to God, and have faith that though things may not turn out the way you expect, you will get that which you need. Return to: Tarot Card Meanings |
